The Berlin Center for Digital Transformation

The Berlin Center for Digital Transformation is a cooperation of the four Berlin Fraunhofer-Institutes FOKUS, HHI, IPK and IZM. The focus activities are technologies and solutions that take into account the increasing digitalization and networking of all spheres of life.

Research is being conducted on basic technologies as well as interdisciplinary technologies as well as solutions for four concrete application areas:

  • Healthcare
  • Mobility and City of the Future
  • Industry and production
  • Critical infrastructures
The priorities of the partners are the bundling of their competencies in the areas of ICT, Data processing, development and deployment of electronic systems as well as production and microelectronics. Above all, the focus is on using synergy effects between the areas and covering of the entire technology chain of digital networking.
Berlin with its portfolio of Fraunhofer Institutes, renowned research institutes, universities, businesses and an exciting Start-Up scene is an ideal location. The center would like to use this in order to promote digital networking not only within Germany but internationally and to position Berlin as a beacon for the next wave of digitalization.

Partners from industry have the opportunity to cooperate with the participant Fraunhofer Institutes in the context of research projects. The advantage being the utilization of the available technological infrastructure of the institutes and the direct transfer of research results into practical experience.

The Berlin Center for Digital Transformation works closely together with the Technical University Berlin, especially with the faculty II Mathematics and Natural sciences, IV Electronics and Informatics and V Traffic and Machine systems.

The center is funded by the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Senate Chancellery – Department for Research and Technology as well as from Regional Development Funds (EFRE).
