Fast and cost efficient data transmission
The goal of this project is to develop a faster and cheaper method of data transmission that will be used in big data centers.
To increase the acceptance in the industry two measures must be taken. First of all the analysis and validation of innovative cost-effective packaging concepts that base on rapid laser- and highly-sensitive photodiode-chips. Second of all development of innovative, thermo-mechanical design of this module in order to realize the performance of the data connection. An important aspect of this a cost-efficient, seamless mounting and joining technology, that can provide both, the classic fiber coupling and mounting on a pc board.
Our goal is to develop a demonstrator for an optical data connection with a transmission rate of 1 Tb/s, which has a significantly lower energy consumption than conventional solutions
